Please give this some serious thought. I truly believe this would be a major improvement for the game and would keep players engaged for much longer.
There's no need to add elite ships or skill points right away—those features can always come later. Right now, the game needs systems like this to make the gameplay more enjoyable and give players more reasons to keep playing.
